Sites and tools you can use to research and choose potential majors
RingTrue recommends students start the college search and admissions process with 2-3 majors or areas of interest in mind. But what if you only have one major in mind? Or, if you are 100% undecided?
We can help! Below is a list of our current five favorite online resources for researching the majors (and careers) that are the right fit for you.

BigFuture / RoadTrip Nation Career Finder
This is one of our favorite NEW tools! College Board has partnered with RoadTrip Nation to help you research potential careers by your top interests. Once you fill in your top 2-3 interests, the tool provides you with matching careers, plus real-life examples of leaders and their path to their current career, including college majors, if applicable. https://roadtripnation.com/careerfinder
ASA Futurescape Tool
This highly visual tool will help you explore explore thousands of education and career paths based on your personality and passions. We like this tool because you can easily see typical required education level, similar careers, typical personality type and average pay related to different careers.
Don't know your major but have a dream company you know you'd love to work for? Maybe a LinkedIn search is where you should start. LinkedIn is like Facebook, but for professionals. And, if you are a free member (use "student" as your job title), you can also see individual background profiles of professionals from your favorite companies. Just search for the companies you're interested in and click on their "People" section. Then spend time search and reading through the individual profiles to get ideas about potential majors. P.S. This works for building your college list, too.
Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) Tool
Based on Carl Jung's personality types, the Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) was developed over 20 years as a tool to help determine suitable career paths based on likes, dislikes and personal preferences. To find suitable majors and career that fit your MBTI profile, follow the two steps below.
Step 1: Take the MBTI and get your type without having to set up a profile of any kind at 16 Personalities:
Step 2: Match your MBTI to potential majors and careers, we love this site from Ball State:
ThoughtCo College Major Quiz
Like the MBTI resources above, this ThoughtCo quiz matches you with majors/areas of study based on your personality, but it's much shorter (and less thorough) than the MBTI survey. This tool wins for "best cut to the chase" online resource.
